You Can Moo Too!
Picture Book or Possible Submission to Highlights Magazine
This is a work in progress. I've been working on this poem on and off for awhile and haven't quite gotten it where I want it yet. It started as a full Picture Book, and I'm leaning more towards shortening it and submitting it to a children's magazine for publication. In creating the illustrations for the book dummy, I found that I really liked certain characters and wanted to work more with them. So these illustrations may end up in other works as their own stories or submissions.

You Can Moo Too

Hi! My name is Blue and I am a cow.
A cow makes a sound and I know how.
A cow says MOO!
Did you know you can MOO too?
MOO with me, MOO!
This is my yellow friend, Jack.
Jack is a duck, and ducks say QUACK!
Did you know you can QUACK back?
QUACK with me, QUACK!
This is my slimy friend, Emmet.
Emmet is a frog, and frogs say RIBBIT!
Did you know you can RIBBIT with it?
RIBBIT with me! RIBBIT!
This is my flying friend, Fuzz.
Fuzz is a bee, and bees say BUZZ!
Did you know you can BUZZ like he does?
BUZZ with me, BUZZ!
This is my soft friend, Lao.
Lao is a kitty and kitty's say MEOW!
Did you know you can MEOW now?
MEOW with me, MEOW!
This is my Mama and I love her - It's true!
But she says the day's over and it's time that I knew.
I say, "No! Mama No! I don't want to go!"
"Ok" Mama says, "I'll be right here, but only for 5 more minutes my dear!"
This is my furry friend, Moore.
Moore is a lion, and lions say ROAR!
Did you know you can ROAR more?
ROAR with me, ROAR!
This is my scaly friend, Bliss.
Bliss is a snake and snakes say HISS!
Did you know you can HISS like this?
HISS with me, HISS!
This is my speedy friend, Gray.
Gray is a horse and horses say NEIGH!
Did you know you can NEIGH all day?
NEIGH with me, NEIGH!
This is my feathery friend, Marguerite.
Marguerite is a chick and chicks say PEEP!
Did you know you can PEEP before you sleep?
PEEP with me, PEEP!
Mama says that it's time for bed
That all sleepy cow's must now rest their heads
I hug all my friends and tell them "night night!"
I get into bed and it's off with the light
My friends want me to play and tell me "Don't go!"
But I have a secret only us cows know:
While being a cow
is fun for now,
when you're tired it's only so-so
In your dreams you can play
You can MOO, QUACK & NEIGH
And there is never an end to the day!
